Hucknall Town v Mansfield Town -- pre-season friendly

We're back on the road - although to be fair we were only in the car 10 minutes - the Watnall Road Ground is only 1/2 mile down the road from where we live.

Anyway, after what seems just like a 5 minute break, football is upon us one again, and our first choice of game was a local derby between Blue Square North side Hucknall Town and Blue Square Premier Mansfield Town.

You never know what to expect with pre-season games, and with both teams undergoing major personnel changes this proved to be no exception. Mansfield's squad was made up of 1st team, youth team and trialists, while Hucknall played what could be argued to be their strongest available line-up, with a couple of trialists on the bench.

The game was played in the right spirit, and to say it was both teams first proper pre-season game, some of the football was not bad at all..... indeed the only goal of the game was a cracker - a neat one-two between Michael Blackwood and Rob Duffy ending with Blackwood slotting past Hucknall keeper Lindley.

Report from Mansfield website

Both teams should take heart from their performances.

Even though Mansfield ended up playing no fewer than 10 trialists, Matt Somner, Jason Lee, Gary Silk and Paul Hurst all have vast experience and will be decent additions to the squad.

Hucknall played really well as a team, and with a few more games under their belt they seem set for a comfortable season in the BSN.

Looks like a trip to Eastwood on Monday -- the Badgers are entertaining Tamworth.....

Grounds to visit 2008-2009

With all the too-ing and fro-ing that has gone on over the closed season, it was interesting to have a look at how many venues we could visit in the coming season.

I have put a list at the side of the page -- as we visit I will delete them -- we can then see where we missed!!

Nothing is certain yet, but...........

.....we are hoping this is to be our second season of just getting in a car and nipping to a local match to satisfy our hunger and passion for live football.

We are n
ot too bothered about having a whole day out with loads of booze and pies, the football is the main thing.

It has been called the "beautiful game", but at Non-League level this can sometimes be stretching it a little.
Has to be said though - we didn't get to many stinkers last season. Oh, trust me, we did have a few!! Two real sticker outers were South Normanton v Long Eaton ( phew) and the Notts FA Senior Cup final between Ollerton /Tn and Eastwood Tn ( least said, soonest mended).....but on the whole last season was a thouroughly enjoyable experience, and here's hoping for more of the same.

Season 2008-2009 cannot start quickly enough - we already have several pre-season friendlies lined up -- please don't take it as read that the games will be on just because they are listed on this blog... Check out the local press or contact the clubs involved - I can't be blamed if games are changed/cancelled......

With the advent of the new East Midlands Counties League, we should not be short of games to go to this coming season. We are also hoping to take in a couple or three Notts Senior League games as well.

I hope to be able to catch my beloved Stags a few times this season, after missing ALL last season's games. Kev will hope to catch the Florists again, but I don't want to go again, EVER.........!!

So we will have NPP NP1 NCELP NCEL1 CMLS CMLP EMCL NSL BSN BSP plus a variety of cup games -- looks like being a busy season ....can't wait!!

Season 2008-2009

Looking at taking in a few NSL games as well as the UniBond, CML, NCEL, EMCL, BSN and BSP now the mighty Stags have been relegated.
